AEON™

Flowable Amniotic Fluid Allograft

AEON™ is a flowable liquid allograft derived from donated human amniotic fluid. AEON™ is aseptically processed and terminally sterilized for convenient storage at temperatures ranging from 2°C to 10°C.
AEON™ contains many growth factors, cytokines, proteins, and other naturally occurring nutrients that enable and maximize the potential of local endogenous cells. This, in turn, has been shown to promote cellular repair and regeneration. Its anti-inflammatory qualities have been shown to reduce pain and swelling at the site of the injury, while naturally occurring hyaluronic acid provides a cushioning and lubricating effect.

The amount and administration (injected or topical) of the allograft is determined by the clinician based on the intended use in each patient.

AEON™ is available in 0.5mL, 1.0mL, 2.0mL and 5.0mL sizes.

The Power of Amniotic Fluid

Amniotic fluid is a versatile, powerful tissue that supports the development of the fetus in utero. The properties of amniotic fluid, which benefit the fetus, also make it an ideal material for covering wounds1-3,7, while at the same time contributing to an environment conducive to the regeneration of healthy tissue.4-7
Allogenic human birth tissues, including amniotic fluid, can be used in various surgical and clinical settings. Published literature shows that amniotic fluid contains important growth factors1,2,6, extracellular matrix2,5,6, hyaluronic acid1,4-6, fibronectin2, laminin4, prostaglandins3, and cells7.

Available Growth Factors

Growth factors are proteins that stimulate cellular growth, proliferation, healing, and so much more. There are many growth factors present in AEON™, some of the more notable ones are:
  • bFGF “Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor” - A glycoprotein which is widely used in treating wounds and ulcers and plays an important role in scarless wound healing
  • EGF “Epidermal Growth Factor” - Stimulates rapid multiplication, differentiation and survival of epidermal and dermal skin cells during healing and skin regeneration
  • KGF “Keratinocyte Growth Factor” - Involved in the skin repair; it recruits special cells to form the epithelial layer that heals wound
  • PDGF “Platelet Derived Growth Factors” - A major mitogen for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells, and other cells. PDGF induces induces cell division and proliferation
  • TGF “Transforming Growth Factor” - Helps with the specialization and movement of cells, proliferation, and activation of many cells essential for healing and maintaining healthy tissue.
AEON™ is readily available and contains all the growth factors obtained with PRP without the inflammatory events associated with its use. The inflammatory response from PRP in tendon fibroblasts leads to the formation of reactive oxygen species and activation of oxidative stress pathways.8
